Best App, twice: Scope takes Gold again at the 2024 Digital Media Awards
Two years after our first win, Scope has won Gold for Best App at the Digital Media Awards for the second time.
Scope Tickets has won Gold for Best App at the 2024 Digital Media Awards, held on Friday 6 September, in the category sponsored by The Irish Sun. It's the second time we've taken home the award, after winning Gold for Best App and Silver for Best Newcomer in 2022.
We'll be honest: it doesn't get less surprising. Best App is one of the toughest categories on the night, and every year we're up against companies many times our size, with far bigger teams and budgets. Getting shortlisted still feels like a win. Coming out on top twice is something none of us expected.
Two years on
A lot has changed since 2022.
In 2023 we rebuilt Scope's platform from the ground up, so it could handle bigger on-sales and more events without slowing down. Some of Ireland's best-known promoters moved their events to Scope, including Reboot. We teamed up with Four Four Magazine to help the organisers we work with reach more people.
We also took Scope outside Ireland for the first time, with our first events in Spain and Canada. Seeing tickets sold on Scope for events thousands of miles from Dublin was a big moment for a small Irish team.
The idea behind Scope hasn't changed, though. Buying a ticket should take seconds on your phone. Running an event should be simple enough to do from the smoking area. And when something goes wrong, there should be a real person there to fix it.
It hasn't always been easy
Anyone who knows our story knows it hasn't been a straight line. We spent the pandemic building a ticketing company with no events to sell tickets for. We've rebuilt the product more than once. And as a small Irish team, we've had to earn every client, one event at a time.
What kept us going was the people using Scope every week: the promoters, venues and college teams who gave us a shot, and the fans who kept buying tickets.
"Winning Best App once felt like a fluke. Winning it twice means the work is paying off," said Gary O'Neill, co-founder and Head of Sales at Scope Tickets. "We're a small team going up against some of the biggest names in Irish digital, so this one means a lot. Huge thanks to everyone who has backed us, and to our clients, who make this the best job going."
Thank you
To our team, who build Scope, support it and turn up to the door on the night. To the people who have backed us from the start. To the organisers who trust us with their events. And to the Digital Media Awards judges for recognising the work again.
We're going to keep building.
